This sculpture explores the letting go of worldly ‘stuff' as Icarus reaches upwards to higher planes, the earthly material world falls away around his feet.

Icarus wanted to explore freedom and joy so fully that he ignored his father warnings. He flew high and to close to the sun the wax on his wings melted the feathers burned and he came crashing down, but not before he managed to experience the freedom and exhilaration of the flight, Oscar Wilde describes this perfectly

Never regret thy fall
O Icarus of the fearless flight,
For the greatest tragedy of them all
Is to never to feel the burning light.

- Oscar Wilde
